FILING DEADLINES

The State Election Board has released the filing date schedule. It may be downloaded HERE.

Please visit this page often for news about the upcoming elections.

Under County Election Board

This applies to:

  • Municipalities with a population over 2,000, or

  • Those municipalities with a population less than 2,000 that HAVE opted out of the Town Meeting Act

This calendar applies to municipalities governed by the state statutes.  Cities and towns that operate under home rule charters will need to follow their own particular charter provisions.

As a reminder, all municipal elections are non-partisan unless prior to the date for notifying the county election board of the call for the election, the municipality has in effect an ordinance providing for a partisan primary election.  This means there will not be a primary election unless you have passed an ordinance requiring a partisan election prior to posting the Notice of Election.  Cities and towns that operate under home rule charters will need to follow their own particular charter provisions.

Please Note: Compensation of elected officials must be set before the officials are elected to office.  OML has sample ordinances that provide for changes in salary for these elected offices.  However, the ordinances must be adopted before these officials are elected.

Under Town Meeting Act

This applies to:

  • Municipalities with a population less than 2,000 that have NOT opted out of the town meeting act.

This calendar applies to municipalities governed by the state statutes and the Town Meeting Act.

As a reminder, in 2013 Legislation was passed increasing the population threshold (from fewer than 1,000 to fewer than 2,000) for cities and towns to be UNDER the Town Meeting Act.  A city or town must use the Act unless an ordinance is passed opting out and the ordinance is provided to the County Election Board.  If you have opted out of the Town Meeting Act, please contact our office and we will send you the election calendar for municipalities holding elections under the County Election Board, or visit OML website and download correct calendar.

Please Note: Compensation of elected officials must be set before the officials are elected to office.  OML has sample ordinances that provide for changes in salary for these elected offices.  However, the ordinances must be adopted before these officials are elected.
