Edmond’s fire department is known for its excellence and achieved the elusive Insurance Services Office (ISO) Class 1 rating, only obtained by 1% of the cities nationwide. The Fire Department supports an urban community with a large university presence as well as rural and farming communities. Those services include fire, medical, ambulance services, Hazmat, dive and technical rescue. Edmond’s Fire Department enjoys collaborative relationships with surrounding cities in mutual aid agreements and maintains effective relationships with its ambulance provider, local hospitals and schools.
The City of Edmond seeks a seasoned leader with a proven record of success in managing complex fire departments to serve as its next Fire Chief. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in emergency medical services, fire suppression, and mutual aid coordination, paired with the ability to effectively navigate the challenges of a growing City. This individual will be a collaborative team player, a competent project manager and will work seamlessly with other Department heads to achieve the City’s overarching goals. Genuine and sincere, the new Fire Chief will build trust through a personable approach, calm demeanor, and self-awareness.
A bachelor’s degree in business or public administration, finance, fire science, or a related field, plus a minimum of seven (7) years of progressive leadership and supervisory experience in fire service – including at least four (4) years of experience as a Chief Officer with preference as a Fire Chief, Deputy Chief, or Administrative Chief – is required. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered. Experience with interpreting collective bargaining contracts and effectively working with union leaders is required.
Candidates from within the Oklahoma Fire Service are preferred but not required. The successful candidate must meet the eligibility requirements and qualifications required by the Oklahoma Firefighters Pension and Retirement System.
Residency in the City of Edmond is preferred but not required.
The salary range for this position is $148,522 - $222,817, depending on qualifications and experience.
